Elida Reyna, vocalist of Grupo Avanté, with over 32 plus awards and a Latin Grammy, has finally made one of her dreams come true, opening up a venue for events. When ask about Casa De Reyna Elida replied, "As far as a dream, its something Letty and I have always talked about doing together. Finally one day I happen to drive by this area and I saw that this wasn't being occupied and I said, "This is it"!. This is the place I want to start my first business. I could of started it in Weslaco because I do live in Weslaco now, but being that I'm here in Mercedes everyday anyway because my kids come to school here and it just felt right. This is where I grew up and this is my hometown. I use to walk from school and back down this same street right here. So for me it's very nostalgic, you know every time I come over here, Mercedes has always been home to me, so it just felt right. So, I talked it over with my husband Lalo and of course talked to Letty about it because obviously I'm busy on the road sometimes and can't be at 2 places at once. So after talking to Letty, my best friend, she said not to worry she would take care of it. She's my right hand when it comes to not just Casa De Reyna but everything. When it comes to merchandise, she helps with that. And of course Lalo on the other side of the spectrum, he's in charge of recording our albums, the production, help promote EYA and Letty helps promote Casa De Reyna."
When asked why now, Mrs. Reyna said, "We have always discussed opening up a sálon, but for whatever reason, I was always too scared. But like they say, "Detrás del miedo hay dinero". Were not at the part yet, laughs Elida. We have invested a lot into the business and hope to prosper. It's a place for people to come together which I love because, we have already made a lot of special memories here, just in the short time that we have been here. We've had one of our best friends baby showers here, Jesse Turner just had his 40th surprise birthday party here. We've had other friends make memories here by celebrating their birthday days, baby showers, bridal showers. We are just happy to be apart of it and to be part of this community. To be contributing to my community where I grew up, it's almost like a way for me to give back. You know, in a small way. We have been open since November, well technically since December. It took us a month to open up. Now finally, we have already added the finishing touches. We have a Valentine's Dinner here at Casa De Reyna, which was sold out thanks to the fans. With those funds we were able to complete the finishing touches. Without the fans, it would not be possible for sure.
There will soon be a Grand Opening for Casa De Reyna. Stay tune for details!
